Do you have any hidden treasures?
There are many things that I treasure in my life. I treasure my children and grandchildren; and just thinking about them brings me joy. But I also treasure some beautiful pieces of furniture and artwork that also bring me joy and a sense of calmness, as I surround myself in their beauty. I like to take long walks on the beach and get my feet wet in the water as I search for pretty shells or sand dollars. It may sound silly but I treasure my seashells and feel thrilled when I find an especially colorful one. It makes me marvel about creation and all the awesome things that express their uniqueness and creativity for all of us to share. I see the colors of the earth that are portrayed in full bloom in the fashion industry through the colorful patterns and fabrics. I see how man has imitated nature and utilized its themes and scenes in various industries.
Some people buy metal detectors and spend hours on the beach scanning for treasures buried in the sand. Indiana Jones' stories depict many perilous crusades encountered by him as he went in search of hidden treasures. The human psyche today seeks out thriller movies and videos that illustrate stories about seekers of lost treasures or riches and their adventurous tales.
We all possess a hidden treasure within our soul that is waiting to be awoken. Possibly it is your innate sense of imagination or your artistic abilities, and even your passion or curiosity for adventure. If you have not given this any thought before now, maybe this is the time in your life to take a fresh look at who you are and why you do what you do. Man's innovative abilities are vast, and no matter where you turn, you are shown that this is true.
What hidden treasures are you overlooking in your life? Sometimes we do not give ourselves sufficient credit for the gifts and talents we possess until someone else brings it to our attention. I know of some people who continually speak about what they want to create, like writing a play or becoming an artist or even starting a new business. The
problem is that they, for years, speak about it but do nothing to make it happen. They possess the talent to make a huge contribution in
their field of endeavor, but they lack the initiative.
I believe that each one of us has something of value to share. If you haven't discovered what your hidden treasure is yet, why not take the time to examine your life and see if, indeed, you have buried your talents and treasures deep within the recesses of your heart and mind. It all starts with asking yourself some pertinent questions that just might help you put the pieces of your personal puzzle together. For example:
1. What are you good at that brings you joy? Ever since the state of the economy has gone soft, I personally observed the ingenuity and creativity of people who have started new businesses and have used their car/truck as the main means of advertisement so as to let people within their community know of their talents and business skills.
When times get tough, people put on their thinking caps and become industrious.
2. What skills or information do you possess that others might benefit from? If you are seeking to get yourself out into the world and meet people, maybe it is time to share you knowledge and wisdom with those who could benefit from your abilities. Some people love to volunteer and they are especially good at mentoring children and young adults. That is most definitely a hidden treasure that others would love to know more about as you share your wealth of knowledge and experience.
3. What type of personality or character traits do you possess that would bring a sense of empowerment and/or inspiration to others? I believe that each one of us possesses a strong point that would be of interest to others. Sharing your values and ideal principles combined with your expertise with others is truly a gift and a treasure to the one who is on the receiving end. When we share our gift and hidden treasures with others, it becomes a win/win situation for all.
